Accomodation....Living through a Renovation..
Accomodation and living through a renovation can be a real test of patience!.. and of course the pocketbook...
Depending on the time of year you have decided to shred and renovate your kitchen or house, also helps decide how you will live. If its the nicer weather, than it actually is a good idea to consider renting a small trailer or mobile home if you have the room in your backyard. This way you can still connect to your home utilities, still have a small but functional kitchen, and can be on site for any questions, problems, or for your insurance company.. (they don't like vacant houses!).
When we built our house, our insurance company gave us a break because we were on site for deliveries of products etc, which tend to be vulnerable to theft.
If a trailer does not work for you, or its the middle of winter, you have to come up with some alternate plan.. Make sure to include this in your kitchen plans, because this will take a while, and you can't live off of takeout pizza for ever! Maybe you could make a make shift kitchen in the basement?.. as long as you have a micro wave, fridge, water source and some creative foods, you will survive. Living through a renovation with decent accomodation is just as important as the renovation itself. Not everybody can afford to motel it, or temp accomodation elsewhere, so if you are living through a renovation, plan it out first and this will help keep your stress levels down.
You will also need a office setup area for your drawings, ideas file, pictures, even if its just a box on a table, you want these papers in one spot, so you can easily find them.
Last but not least.. when it looks it worse!.. you have to believe it WILL GET BETTER!... been there done that and got the hat!
